In the third episode of the series, LA64 takes viewers to Jefferson Parish, Louisiana’s working coast, where water and commerce shape daily life. The episode explores the Westwego Shrimp Lot, travels bayous linked to pirate Jean Lafitte, and visits Kenner’s Rivertown. From coastal Grand Isle to communities just beyond New Orleans, these stops trace a parish shaped by seafood, history, and Gulf Coast tradition.

SIGNPOST TO FREEDOM: THE 1953 BATON ROUGE BUS BOYCOTT
Monday 8:30pm

As part of LPB’s look back at our fifty-year history of presenting Louisiana documentaries exploring Louisiana’s Black History, this program tells the story of the nation's first large-scale boycott challenging segregation. In 1953, led by a handful of determined young men and women, the African-American citizens of Louisiana's capital city staged a quiet revolt by refusing to ride city buses. In just eight days, they brought the city's bus system to the brink of bankruptcy. Word of the successful action spread like wildfire, influencing others like Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King, Jr.

MAKING A WAY

Marvin and Clara Toussaint journey back to their African American roots in the plantation country of Cane River in north Louisiana. Through family history, personal reflection, and the voices of the Cane River community, the program explores identity, heritage, and the enduring strength of generations who came before them. From filmmakers Bill Rodman and Flo Ulmer.

AMERICAN MASTERS: SUN RA: DO THE IMPOSSIBLE
Friday 9:00pm

From swing to bebop to free jazz, Sun Ra bridged myriad musical styles to form his own avant-garde sound. With his ever-evolving collective, the Arkestra, he stretched the boundaries of jazz and self-produced more than 200 records, in addition to being one of the first Black artists to have his own record label. Remembered today as the “Godfather of Afrofuturism,” Sun Ra weaved ancient Egyptian and interstellar metaphors into a definitive musical and spiritual vision that resonates across generations. Discover the extraordinary life of this poet, philosopher, and musical visionary.

LOUISIANA: THE STATE WE'RE IN

Louisiana wildlife experts have issued emergency orders after a deer in Concordia Parish tested positive for chronic wasting disease. The highly contagious neurological condition attacks the animal's nervous system and can decimate deer populations. Christina Jensen talks to experts for tips on what hunters should be watching for.

Just about every family has an heirloom passed down from previous generations. LPB recently hosted an Antiques Appraisal event to help folks determine if their items live up to the lore, or if the value is more sentimental. LPB's Johnny Atkinson will take a look at some of the highlights, and hear from experts about the best way to find whether those family treasures could be worth big bucks.

Iconic and beloved screen and stage performer Alan Cumming returns as host for this awards show that honors outstanding films and television projects that celebrate the voices and stories of the 50-plus. Leading this year’s contenders for Best Picture/Best Movie for Grownups are Hamnet,A House of Dynamite,One Battle After Another, SinnersandTrain Dreams.

This year comedian/actor Adam Sandler receives the Career Achievement Award.

LPB Call for Nominations for Louisiana Young Heroes

Louisiana Public Broadcasting announces the 2026 Louisiana Young Heroes program and the statewide call for nominations of students to be recognized as Louisiana Young Heroes.

 A Young Hero is defined as an exceptional individual who has excelled in academics, given significantly of themselves through public service, overcome adversity, exhibited extraordinary heroism, or inspired others through their deeds and strength of character to become better students, persons, and citizens. Parents, principals, teachers, guidance counselors, family members, and friends who know of high school students deserving of recognition for their tenacity, good work and commendable deeds, are encouraged to nominate them!

Nominees must be Louisiana students in grades 9-12, enrolled in an academic institution or homeschool program, and cannot be older than 18 years of age. Nominations and supporting materials should be submitted through the online form at lpb.org/heroes. The deadline for entries is Sunday, March 1, 2026. (Previous Young Heroes are not eligible.)
