A Young Hero is defined as an exceptional young person who has excelled in academics, given significantly of themselves through public service, overcome personal adversity, exhibited extraordinary heroism, or inspired others through their deeds and strength of character to become better students, persons, and citizens.

St. Landry Parish Tourist Commission dedicated 2025 to celebrating the area’s paragon of Zydeco music ─ Clifton Chenier. The monthly Zydeco Capital Jam at the Tourist Commission Visitor Center, lets fans continue Chenier’s legacy and the fun by catching local Zydeco musicians every second Saturday at 1:00p.m. The annual Courir de Mardi Gras and Chicken Chase, is set for February 17th and wraps six weeks of carnival activities that are Cajun and Creole style.
