As it travels, stormwater can pick up pollutants such as oil, trash, fertilizers, and chemicals, carrying them into nearby storm drains, streams, rivers, and lakes. Everyone can help reduce stormwater pollution by taking simple actions. Properly disposing of trash, minimizing the use of fertilizers, cleaning up pet waste, and planting grass or native plants to absorb rainwater all make a difference.
