How Katrina Created Unlikely Television Partnership

When Hurricane Katrina slammed into the Gulf Coast, LPB provided a window to the world. With lives on the line, workers at WWL-TV were forced to leave their studios and evacuate the city. Many traveled to Baton Rouge, where they worked with LPB to keep information flowing, not just to Louisiana but around the globe. LPB's Dorothea Wilson looks at the unique partnership that continues between LPB and WWL-TV, 20 years later.

Lt. General Russel Honore’ Reflects on Katrina 20 Years Later

As the chaos of Katrina unfolded in New Orleans, a strong leader was needed to coordinate rescues and provide supplies. Lieutenant General Russel Honoré answered the call, becoming the Commander of “Joint Task Force Katrina.” He pushed through bureaucracy and red tape to carry out the daunting mission of saving lives and building a future. Dorothea Wilson sits down with the retired General to reflect on the days after Katrina, and the progress we've made.

Governor Jeff Landry on Lessons Learned with Katrina Pt. 1

Twenty years after Hurricane Katrina reshaped Louisiana’s landscape and legacy, Governor Jeff Landry is reflecting on the lessons learned and the road ahead. In an exclusive conversation with LPB’s Karen LeBlanc, the Governor recalls the uncertainty of those first hours, the evolution of disaster response since 2005, and his vision for building a stronger, more resilient Louisiana in the face of future storms.

Hurricane Katrina: Finding Home 20 Years Later

Hurricane Katrina created the largest diaspora in American history, scattering families across Louisiana and beyond. Two decades later, in a quiet Pearl River neighborhood called Sawmill Creek, former residents of St. Bernard Parish have rebuilt more than houses; they’ve rebuilt a sense of home. LPB’s Karen LeBlanc shares their stories of resilience, bound by roots, memory, and community.

Tracking Hurricane Katrina: Where Are We Now?

Technological advances have changed the way forecasters track hurricanes. Twenty years after Katrina, they're able to provide more accurate paths and intensities of hurricanes, days in advance. LPB’s Dorothea Wilson speaks with meteorologists to talk about the advancements, and what's at risk as the federal government enacts major cuts to the National Weather Service.

Hurricane Katrina: An Unwelcome Muse

For many Louisiana artists, Hurricane Katrina became an uninvited source of inspiration, a way to process and give voice to the storm’s devastation and its aftermath. Nearly two decades later, the art born from Katrina continues to celebrate resilience and aid in healing from one of the darkest chapters in our history. LPB’s Karen LeBlanc brings us the story of a new anthology of poetry and art shaped by this unwelcome muse.
