About the Series

The American Revolution, a six-part, twelve-hour series on America’s founding struggle, will present the story of the men and women of the Revolutionary generation, their humanity in victory and defeat, and the crisis that they lived through. By weaving together accounts of American political leaders and their British counterparts with the perspectives of the so-called ordinary people who waged and witnessed war, The American Revolution will be an expansive, evenhanded look at the virtues and the contradictions in the fight for independence and the birth of the United States.

Events

Louisiana’s Old State Capitol played host to a premiere party celebrating episode one of the PBS series The American Revolution. Also co-hosted by LPB and Louisiana’s America 250 Commission, Louisiana was treated to the first episode a full hour before its broadcast premiere! A huge thank you to Florentine Films for this wonderful opportunity and Rep. Mike Bayham, and Mary Durusau and the staff at Louisiana’s Old State Capitol.

A huge thank you to all who came out to our “Day of Revolutionary Fun” at the East Baton Rouge Parish Library – Main Library. Hundreds of people braved the rain to interact with history which included a Boston Tea Tasting, period dancing and music, and a conversation with Spanish Louisiana Governor Bernardo de Gálvez.

Families and educators also learned about upcoming free educational resources being developed by LPB Education that will help young learners explore Louisiana’s vital role during the American Revolution. Special thank you to the Sons of the American Revolution, the Daughters of the American Revolution, Louisiane Vintage Dancers, Little Wars, Robert Freeland and the Louisiana America 250 Commission and of course, the East Baton Rouge Parish Library.
