AN EVENING OF LOUISIANA HISTORY

LPB invites you to an evening celebrating two of Louisiana's most iconic stories as part of our year-long 50th Anniversary celebration.

A TALL ORDER: THE LOUISIANA STATE CAPITOL
Saturday 6:00pm
This LPB original documentary offers a stunning look at the landmark that Huey Long envisioned and brought to life. With striking visuals and expert storytelling, the film explores the architects who designed its dramatic silhouette and the master artists who crafted its sculptures and reliefs, revealing the rich history and bold vision behind one of Louisiana’s most recognizable treasures.

HUEY LONG
Saturday 7:00pm
Immediately following, LPB is proud to present a rare rebroadcast of Huey Long, Ken Burns’ acclaimed portrait of Louisiana’s legendary and controversial leader. Produced with American Documentaries, Inc., WETA, and PBS—with LPB’s early support and collaboration—this landmark film remains one of Burns’ most defining works.

This finely crafted film by Ken Burns reveals a complex and comprehensive portrait of the man and the era, his politics and the power he so obsessively sought. Extensive archival footage and recollections by Louisianans who knew Long are juxtaposed with candid contemporary interviews with the late historian Arthur M. Schlesinger, Jr.; the late journalist I.F. Stone; and the late author Robert Penn Warren, whose magnificent novel All the King’s Men was inspired by the rise and fall of Huey Long.

While the documentary is currently available nationally through PBS Passport, LPB was granted exclusive broadcast rights, making this re-airing a unique experience for Louisiana viewers. For members of Friends of LPB, you can use your LPB PASSPORT extended streaming benefit to explore the Ken Burns Collection, a showcase of more than 40 acclaimed historical documentaries from Burns and his collaborators.
