The famed Vienna Philharmonic rings in the New Year with its annual concert from Vienna's Musikverein conducted for the first time by Yannick Nézet-Séguin with performances by the Vienna State Ballet and location segments hosted by Hugh Bonneville. An encore airing follows immediately after at 8:30pm.

It's official! The American Revolution is in the Nielsen Streaming Top 10. You can stream this epic 12-hour Ken Burns documentary series free until January 2 at video.lpb.org or by using the PBS app. 

Prefer to watch the broadcast? LPB will rebroadcast the series over six consecutive Fridays beginning January 9th at 9:00pm. 

Louisiana, Gálvez, and The American Revolution

Now available in support of America’s 250 celebration! LPB Education has developed  Louisiana’s Hidden History: Spanish Louisiana in the American Revolution, six standards-aligned resources to help students in grades 3-8 understand the important role of Spanish Louisiana in helping the American Patriots win the American Revolution. Students learn about the diverse troops from Louisiana, led by Governor Bernardo de Gálvez, that fought several battles against the British during the war. Designed for use by educators and parents both here and nationally, this collection of materials includes student-friendly videos and engaging lesson plans that explain this often overlooked chapter in our nation’s fight for independence.

Ring in the new year with a look at the opportunities and challenges facing some of Louisiana's urban centers.

In Baton Rouge, leaders are looking for ways to plug the massive budget gap left after voters rejected Mayor-President Sid Edwards' "Thrive" tax initiative. 

Lake Charles Mayor Marshall Simien, Jr., is working to bring a world-class sports complex to his city, along with new initiatives to keep youth from falling into a cycle of crime. 

In Shreveport, it's all about maintaining momentum for Mayor Tom Arceneaux after big investments from rapper 50 Cent and a great showing from LSU Shreveport Pilots baseball. 

In Lafayette, Mayor Monique Blanco-Boulet is focusing on efficiency and infrastructure. At the center of development - the soon to be open Buc-ees Travel Center.

After building a printing empire in Philadelphia with his wife Deborah, Benjamin Franklin gains worldwide fame from electricity experiments, then spends years in London trying to keep Britain and America together as his family comes apart.
9:30pm - BENJAMIN FRANKLIN  An American  Part two of the Ken Burns documentary. In wartime Philadelphia, Benjamin Franklin helps Thomas Jefferson craft the Declaration of Independence. In Paris, he wins French support for the American Revolution. Back home, he works on the Constitution of the new United States.

He shows extraordinary talent but struggles to finish commissions. Later, in Milan, he paints a monumental fresco of the Last Supper.
9pm -  LEONARDO DA VINCI Painter-God  Part two of the Ken Burns documentary.  Leonardo designs fanciful flying machines, studies light and shadow, investigates gravity, dissects cadavers, and pours the sum of his scientific and artistic knowledge into a portrait that would become the most famous painting on earth.
