CYPRESS SWAMPS, OIL HISTORY & A MUSICAL LEGACY
LPB’s original series LA64 visits Caddo Parish
LA64: CADDO PARISH
Monday 8:00pm | Friday 8:30pm
From a cinematic boat tour through the moss-draped waterways of Caddo Lake—home to the nation’s first offshore oil well and a backdrop for film and television—to the rise and fall of boomtown Oil City, this episode of LA64 traces the region’s industrial roots. In Shreveport, step onto the legendary stage of the Municipal Auditorium, where the Louisiana Hayride launched icons like Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash, and explore a vibrant arts scene shaped by both history and modern revival. Along the Boom and Bust Byway, explore small towns like Mooringsport, Gilliam, and Belcher—each one adding a chapter to the region’s story.
The journey continues through immersive museums, living history sites, and the scenic outdoors, before turning to the flavors of North Louisiana, where chefs honor ancestral traditions while redefining the region’s culinary identity. Our LA64 road trip ends in Keithville, with a visit to Chimp Haven, and a moving encounter with rescued chimpanzees. Through each stop, Caddo Parish reveals itself as a place shaped by resilience and reinvention… where Louisiana’s frontier spirit still endures.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAVID ATTENBOROUGH
LIFE ON EARTH: ATTENBOROUGH'S GREATEST ADVENTURE
Wednesday 7:00pm
In 1976, Sir David Attenborough embarked on an ambitious three-year global odyssey to film Life on Earth, an innovative documentary of unprecedented scale. Attenborough and his team traveled to 40 countries to document over 600 species and faced extraordinary challenges along the way, including a coup in the Comoros, gunshots in Rwanda, and threats from Saddam Hussein’s army in Iraq. Written and presented by Attenborough, Life on Earth set out to “tell the greatest story in all the world”: how life on our planet evolved.
Fifty years after production began, and in celebration of Attenborough’s 100th birthday, LIFE ON EARTH: ATTENBOROUGH’S GREATEST ADVENTURE offers rare, behind-the-scenes insight into the making of the groundbreaking series. Featuring exclusive interviews with Attenborough and his original crew, the special captures the triumphs and setbacks of filming the series during a pivotal era in television history, when jet travel and color filming were relatively new.
Upon its broadcast on PBS in 1982, Life on Earth quickly became a global phenomenon, commanding the attention of over 500 million people in more than 100 territories. Its extraordinary success launched five decades of ambitious wildlife storytelling and cemented Attenborough’s legacy as the most successful and influential wildlife filmmaker of our time.
FUN FACT ABOUT SIR DAVID ATTENBOROUGH
Sir David Attenborough is the only person to have won BAFTA Awards in black-and-white, color, high-definition, 3D, and 4K resolution!

CONGRESSIONAL MAP CHAOS & THE LOUISIANA PURCHASE UP-CLOSE
LOUISIANA: THE STATE WE'RE IN
Friday 7:00pm
A lawsuit has been filed against Louisiana leaders over the decision to postpone House primary elections while voting was already underway. It all stems from a Supreme Court ruling that invalidated the state's Congressional maps. Christina Jensen digs into the ruling, and how it could dramatically reshape the entire country's political representation.
More than two centuries after it reshaped the United States, original documents tied to the Louisiana Purchase are now on display in Louisiana. The exhibit, at the Old State Capitol, gives visitors an up-close look at the agreement which doubled the size of the young nation and enshrined Louisiana's central role in American history. Johnny Atkinson show us what it takes to preserve and display the historic records.
