It explores the culture and community that grew alongside the fruit, from family farms to the Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival, where tradition, food, and connection are celebrated each year.

Gaines, whose work was shaped by his childhood growing up in the segregated Quarters of River Lake Plantation in Pointe Coupee Parish, Louisiana. Gaines reflects on the people and experiences that inspired his writing and the impact of leaving Louisiana for San Francisco as a teenager.
