50 Years of LPB
Take a look back at milestones and check out some of LPB's longest running series.
Created by the Louisiana Legislature, LPB began broadcasting on September 6, 1975, with a clear mission: to educate, inform, and connect the citizens of Louisiana. From the start, LPB has remained a commercial-free network, dedicated to sharing meaningful stories for both children and adults.
What began as a single station has grown into a six-station network serving Baton Rouge, Monroe, Lake Charles, Lafayette, Shreveport, and Alexandria, with full statewide reach though LPB’s sister station, WLAE-TV, in New Orleans.
We could not have reached this moment without the trust of Louisianans, the generosity of our supporters, and the countless stories that unite us.

With striking visuals and expert storytelling, the film explores the architects who designed its dramatic silhouette and the master artists who crafted its sculptures and reliefs, revealing the rich history and bold vision behind one of Louisiana’s most recognizable treasures.

Ken Burns’ acclaimed portrait of Louisiana’s legendary and controversial leader. Produced with American Documentaries, Inc., WETA, and PBS—with LPB’s early support and collaboration—this landmark film remains one of Burns’ most defining works. This finely crafted film reveals a complex and comprehensive portrait of the man and the era, his politics and the power he so obsessively sought.
