Going Underground

As greenhouse gas emissions rise, Louisiana is considering carbon capture and storage to reduce emissions from industrial facilities. The technology would capture carbon dioxide before it reaches the atmosphere and store it deep underground. As proposed projects pop up across the state, legislators, industry representatives, scientists and landowners are weighing questions about the technology’s costs, benefits and potential unforeseen impacts. LPB examines the science and policies behind carbon capture with the premiere of Louisiana Spotlight: Going Underground: Carbon Capture in Louisiana. Premieres Monday October 5th @ 8pm on LPB!

From proposed carbon sequestration wells in Vernon Parish to the aftermath of a carbon dioxide pipeline rupture in Satartia, Mississippi, we talk with the people and communities at the center of the debate. The documentary explores questions surrounding safety, federal incentives, property rights and the potential role of carbon capture and storage in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Louisiana Spotlight is the evolution of the longstanding LPB public affairs program Louisiana Public Square. With this new format, Louisiana Spotlight allows viewers to explore complex issues in a deeper, more personal way, with stories told by the very people facing the challenges head-on.
