THE SCIENCE & SENTIMENT BEHIND CARBON CAPTURE
LOUISIANA SPOTLIGHT
Going Underground: Carbon Capture in Louisiana
Monday 8:00pm
In Louisiana, there is passion surrounding the carbon capture debate. LPB explores questions surrounding safety, federal incentives, property rights, and the potential role of carbon capture and storage in reducing greenhouse gas emissions in this latest Louisiana Spotlight documentary.
As greenhouse gas emissions rise, Louisiana is considering carbon capture and storage as one way to reduce emissions from industrial facilities. The technology would capture carbon dioxide before it reaches the atmosphere and store it deep underground. With projects proposed across the state, legislators, industry representatives, scientists, and landowners are weighing questions about the technology’s costs, benefits, and potential unforeseen impacts.
From proposed carbon sequestration wells in Vernon Parish to the aftermath of a carbon dioxide pipeline rupture in Satartia, Mississippi, LPB talks with the people and communities at the center of the debate.
Audiences in New Orleans can watch the program on WLAE-TV Monday at 8:00pm.
