LA64: BEAUREGARD PARISH
Monday 8:00PM

In this all-new episode of the LPB travel series, we explore the piney woods and frontier spirit of Beauregard Parish.

Beauregard Parish captures the character of Louisiana’s Piney Woods, where timber, folklore, and frontier history shaped a distinct regional identity. The episode begins in DeRidder, where the railroad and lumber industry helped shape the town’s identity, still visible in its historic depot, Gothic jail, and local markets that reflect the area’s enduring traditions, including those of its Mennonite community. Traveling through Sugartown and Dry Creek, the journey highlights agricultural traditions, from the region’s celebrated watermelon heritage to the storytelling of local author Curtis Illes. From farmland to forest to the Texas border in Merryville, these stops reveal a parish where legend and landscape remain closely connected.

LPB's Christina Jensen will look at the new push to expand Louisiana's already robust role in missions to space.

Plus, A Breaux Bridge student is receiving national recognition after being named one of "America’s Awesome Kids" - a PBS initiative. AMERICAN MASTERS
W.E.B. Du Bois: Rebel With a Cause
Tuesday 8:00pm

Explore the life and legacy of notable Black scholar and civil rights pioneer W.E.B. Du Bois. From his birth, just five years after the Emancipation Proclamation; to his death, on the eve of the March on Washington in 1963, his legacy as an activist continues to resonate today.

For Du Bois, the power of the pen was his greatest weapon. He authored more than 20 books and fused scholarship with activism, deploying literature, data, and groundbreaking infographics to expose the roots of systemic racism. Drawing from his books, articles, speeches, and archival audio, Rebel With A Cause illuminates the poetry and force of his language through dramatic readings by Common, Courtney B. Vance, and Jeffrey Wright, with narration by Viola Davis.
