LOUISIANA GRASS ROOTS
Wednesday 9:00pm | Sunday 5:30pm
LOUISIANA GRASS ROOTS explores Southwest Louisiana’s endangered prairie ecosystem and the community efforts to restore it. Once stretching across much of the region, the Cajun Prairie shaped local wildlife, culture, and way of life. Today, scientists and local advocates are working to bring this unique Louisiana landscape back.
The film is directed by Jillian Godshall and produced by Dr. Phyllis Baudoin Griffard. It was filmed locally in Acadiana with an all-local crew. “This film celebrates the inspiring community working tirelessly to save the imperiled ecosystem in our backyards,” says Godshall. “We hope LPB audiences will enjoy learning about a little-known Louisiana landscape and its influence on our state’s culture and history.”
The film features Geno Delafose, Megan Constantin, Dr. Jeffery Darensbourg, Dr. Charles Allen, Dr. Malcolm Vidrine, Larry Allain, and Steve Nevitt. The original score was composed by Grammy-nominated musician, Blake Miller.
“This is a film rooted in understanding and hope,” says LPB Director of Programming Jason Viso. “It helps viewers understand what the Cajun Prairie is and what it means to our state and provides hope because of the efforts to restore it. Those are the kind of educational and positive messages LPB likes to share with our viewers.”
