PBS LearningMedia: Summertime And The Learning Is Easy!

Summer of Adventure (ALL)Whether you're looking for music and dance activities, science experiments, family-friendly adventures, or learning about animals (plus more!), you will find media and activity resources in the Camp PBS LearningMedia collection. We’ve gathered fun, exploratory resources for you to use as you plan summer fun. This collection of resources leverages fun, educational activities to include in your daily schedule, as well as resources to help seed ideas for introducing topics to your campers.  

A Qyah Juneteenth | Molly of Denali(K-2)Trini is excited about celebrating Juneteenth in Qyah in this animated story from the PBS KIDS series MOLLY OF DENALI. When Trini discovers that Qyah doesn’t celebrate Juneteenth, she shares her family’s traditions and enlists her grandmother to answer Molly and Tooey’s questions about the importance of the holiday.

Stuck on Sharks - Clips | Wild Kratts (K-2, 3-5) Learn about the secret life of the Great White Shark. Watch these clips to join the gang as they "stick with" a female shark and soon learn that the giant predator of the sea actually has lots of challenges with which to contend. 

World Cultures Collection (PreK-8)Explore the world with PBS LearningMedia! This collection focuses on food, folktales, and other aspects of cultural heritage. With your class, hear stories, play through situations, and learn how to make crafts from cultures near and far.

Celebrating America’s 250th Birthday!

Declaration of Independence | Civics 101 (3-5,6-8) The Declaration of Independence was the first formal statement by a nation's people asserting their right to choose their own government. 

The American Revolution (3-5,6-8,8-12) This twelve-hour series by Ken Burns examines how thirteen colonies on the Atlantic Coast, won their independence, and established a republic that still endures.

For Crown or Colony? | Mission US (6-8)  For Crown or Colony?puts players in the shoes of Nat Wheeler, a 14-year-old printer's apprentice in 1770 Boston. Ultimately, the player determines  Nat's fate by deciding where his loyalties lie. 

George Washington’s Vision for America at 250 Years | PBS News Hour (6-8,9-12) As the country observes the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, former News Hour anchor Judy Woodruff is starting a new chapter of her series America at a Crossroads. She’ll explore what it means to be an American, how that idea has evolved since the nation’s founding, and where we might be headed. She begins by looking at how closely our identity as Americans adheres to the template created by George Washington. 

LOUISIANA STUDENT FEATURED IN NATIONWIDE PBS KIDS SERIES

As the United States approaches its 250th anniversary, PBS has developed a series that  reflects  the lives of young audiences, introducing kids across the country to a wide array of places, cultures, and customs. AMERICA’S AWESOME KIDS premieres May 22 nationwide on PBS KIDS

Produced by GBH Kids in coordination with 23 partnering PBS stations across the country – including LPB – AMERICA’S AWESOME KIDS features 25 mini-documentaries that showcase kids from across the country sharing what is special about where they live, their hobbies and passions, and how they are making a positive impact in their communities. 

After putting out a nationwide call for nominations, 10-year-old Jacob from Breaux Bridge was selected for the series. Jacob impressed with his diverse hobbies like trail riding and football as well as his leadership skills, including the development of an anti-bullying campaign for his school. Viewers in Louisiana can catch AMERICA’S AWESOME KIDS on LPB-HD, the LPB PBS KIDS 24/7 channel, and streaming for free on the PBS KIDS Video Apppbskids.org and on the AMERICA’S AWESOME KIDSYouTube channel

Louisiana’s French Heritage

Throughout the month of June, the LDMA is highlighting Louisiana’s French heritage. Louisiana’s time as a French colony left an indelible mark on the state and its people, especially the Cajuns and the Creoles.  Explore stories that illustrate the history and vibrant cultures of the Cajuns and the Creoles, Louisiana’s efforts to preserve the French language, and the state’s enduring relationship with France and the Francophone countries around the world.

Louisiana Young Heroes 2026: LPB SPECIAL FOCUS -   Friday, June 26 at 8PM
 LPB celebrates seven high school students from across the state who have earned the honor of being named Louisiana Young Heroes. Watch this LPB special presentation and learn how these outstanding students have become role models not just within their local communities, but to us all.  This year's Young Heroes are:

•     Jaden Armstrong of Baton Rouge (Senior at Liberty Magnet High School)
•     Marleigh Auzenne of Lafayette (Sophomore at Early College Academy)
•     Andrew Chambers of New Iberia (Junior at Loreauville High School)

Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame 2026 : LPB SPORTS SPECIAL FOCUS - Saturday, June 27 at 7PM
Join LPB and the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame for this special live broadcast from Natchitoches celebrating the 2026 inductees. This year’s ceremony features Louisiana sports standouts including famed basketball coach John Brady; WNBA star Sylvia Fowles; Saints standout Joe Horn; MLB All-Star Jonathan Lucroy; NFL great Todd McClure; the winningest college basketball coach in state history, Mike McConathy; high school coaching great Dewain Strother; and NFL star Pat Williams. Also being inducted are baseball standout Warren Morris, recipient of the Ambassador Award. Kathy Holloway, the first female president of Louisiana and the National High School Coaches Assoc. will receive the Dave Dixon Sports Leadership Award. Journalists John James Marshall and Gil LeBreton round out the class, both receiving the Distinguished Service Award for Sports Journalism. 

Capturing America: The Carol Highsmith Story - Monday, June 29 at 7PM For more than 40 years, Carol Highsmith has greeted every single day with one mission: to document every nook and cranny of the United States through her photography. Join us as we follow Highsmith in the original LPB documentary, CAPTURING AMERICA: THE CAROL HIGHSMITH STORY. A self-described nomad, Carol captures and documents life in America in the late 20th and early 21st centuries, visiting all 50 states, plus Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico. From its majestic mountains and quirky roadside attractions to its most unforgettable characters, both known and unknown, we follow Carol through six states as she wraps up her life’s work and completes her study of America. 

It’s a task of almost unimaginable vastness. When it’s finished, Carol’s collection will amount to a projected 100,000 images, all destined for the Library of Congress where they live copyright and royalty free for all of America to enjoy. As we celebrate America’s 250th, this priceless archive is Carol’s gift to a country she has loved since memory began.
