THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION

This expansive and extensively researched docuseries from Ken Burns, Sarah Botstein, & David Schmidt continues through Friday on LPB primetime. This week we dive deeper into the individual stories of the war through the memories of the men and women who lived it: the rank-and-file Continental soldiers and American militiamen (some of them merely teens), Patriot political and military leaders, British Army officers, American Loyalists, Native soldiers and civilians, enslaved and free African Americans, German soldiers in the British service, French and Spanish allies, and various civilians living in North America, Loyalist as well as Patriot, including many made refugees by the war.

The American Revolution is sponsored locally by the Louisiana Forestry Association and the East Baton Rouge Parish Library.

WHAT ABOUT LOUISIANA ?
Wondering about if/how Louisiana will show up in The American Revolution? Read on!

When PBS made the announcement about the premiere of THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION, there was a lot of excitement. Who doesn't look forward to a good Ken Burns documentary?

But it also left many PBS member stations around the country wondering how they would engage with their communities around the film - stations in states like California, Nebraska, and Nevada. Stations in states that are not a part of the original 13 colonies.

But LPB knew exactly what we wanted to do! We knew our plan would revolve around helping teach the rest of the country about the important role our state played in this pivotal moment in history.

DOES LOUISIANA GET A MENTION?
In short, the answer is "Yes!" Louisiana and its Spanish Governor Bernardo de Gálvez make an appearance in Friday night's final episode, "The Most Sacred Thing." But LPB wanted to expand upon that history.

That's why LPB Education is teaming up with PBS LearningMedia to create a collection of curriculum-aligned teaching resources entitled: Louisiana's Hidden History: Spanish Louisiana in the American Revolution. The lessons are being designed for use in grades 3-8 ad will include student-friendly videos and engaging lesson plans and will be freely available to educators and families nationwide through PBS LearningMedia in Spring of 2026. Stay tuned for more!

A SPECIAL MASTERPIECE FEATURE LENGTH PRESENTATION

THE GREAT ESCAPER ON MASTERPIECE
Sunday 8:00pm
This special MASTERPIECE feature length presentation tells the true story of Bernard Jordan, who made global headlines in the summer of 2014. That's when he staged a "great escape" from his care home to join fellow war veterans on a beach in Normandy, commemorating their fallen comrades at the D-Day Landing 70th anniversary.

Michael Caine and the late, two-time Oscar® winner Glenda Jackson star as Bernard Jordan and his wife, Rene. Bernie’s adventure, spanning a mere 48 hours, marked the culmination of his 60-year marriage to Rene. While Bernie is on his trip to Normandy, Rene recalls their younger days and falling in love during World War II.

Bernie’s story captured the imagination of the world as he embodied the defiant, “can-do” spirit of a generation that was fast disappearing. But of course, it wasn’t the whole story. It was an inspirational but sanitized retelling of one man’s need to come to terms with the lasting trauma of war. The Great Escaper celebrates Bernie and Rene’s enduring love but always with an eye to the lessons we might learn from the Greatest Generation.

In documenting the contributions of hundreds of Louisiana Cajuns to the American war effort, Mire finds that many of these veterans are finally realizing with pride that they were something special and that they played a vital role in this country's freedom. From 2009.

GETTING THE GRADE ON LOUISIANA'S INFRASTRUCTURE

LOUISIANA: THE STATE WE'RE IN
Friday 7:00pm

Louisiana's infrastructure lags behind most of the nation according to a recent report. The American Society of Civil Engineers gave the state's roads, bridges and drinking water an overall grade of C-. There were some signs of improvement but the report highlights a long and expensive list of vital improvements. We explore next steps.

The LSU-Shreveport Pilots are still racking up the accolades after their perfect season. With 59 wins, they set the record for the longest win-streak in college baseball.

LPB Sports Correspondent Victor Howell talks with head coach Brad Neffendorf about the stellar season and a new exhibit in the works at the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.

WAYS TO HELP CULTIVATE GRATITUDE IN CHILDREN

Filer image

MAKE YOUR OWN THANKFUL TREE FOR THANKSGIVING

Thanksgiving can be special day for young children and families. Special traditions, family gatherings, and big meals are staples of the holiday. Children love the food, festivities, and time at home with loved ones. Many families also have traditions of volunteering and giving back to the community. This year, consider practicing gratitude as a more regular routine. Encouraging thankfulness builds empathy and encourages kids to think about all the people who help them every day.
