THE ITALIAN RENAISSANCE: THE BEAUTY WITHIN THE BRUTALITY

RENAISSANCE: THE BLOOD AND THE BEAUTY Redemption
Tuesday 8:00pm
Stream the series until 9/7/2025

Renaissance Italy was full of plenty of beauty, but it was also pretty brutal too!
In the last episode of this three-part limited series we find rival artists Michelangelo, Leonardo, and Raphael about to get caught up in a gathering storm!

As Leonardo leaves the Italian peninsula for France, Michelangelo and Raphael are locked in a fierce competition in the Vatican: decorating the Sistine Chapel ceiling and the Pope’s personal apartments.

But, outraged by the excesses of Rome, Martin Luther leads an assault on the Catholic Church. The Protestant Reformation is unleashed across Europe, reshaping attitudes to art and bringing bloodshed to the Italian peninsula. Caught up in the maelstrom, Michelangelo’s Last Judgement becomes an intensely personal statement of his own faith.

With contributions from contemporary artists such as Antony Gormley, Alison Lapper, and David LaChapelle, as well as historians and biographers, this thrilling three-part series explores the lives of three rival artists – Michelangelo, Leonardo and Raphael, who produced seductively beautiful works of art in the midst of violence and upheaval.
