Louisiana Brain Drain
Among Louisiana’s many significant challenges are two pressing issues: brain drain and a declining population. Brain drain occurs when educated individuals, typically recent college graduates, leave Louisiana for other states. Brain drain has become a pressing issue for the state, as Louisiana has one of the highest rates of college graduates that leave. Additionally, the population our of state is shrinking, with Louisiana losing residents at a faster rate than nearly any other state. In this segment, LPB’s Dorothea Wilson interviews local officials to discuss the impact of these trends on Louisiana and explore the reasons behind them.
LSU Game Changer: Coastal Meteorology Only Program of Its Kind in U.S.
The LSU Department of Oceanography and Coastal Sciences is launching a new Bachelor's degree program: the Bachelor of Science in Coastal Meteorology. This unique program combines atmospheric science with hands-on coastal research opportunities. It is the only Coastal Meteorology program of its kind in the United States, specifically tailored for Louisiana students with a focus on local issues. Louisiana: The State We’re In, Louisiana's only statewide news magazine, is in its 48th season on the air. The program airs Fridays at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 4:30 p.m. on the six-station LPB network that includes stations in Alexandria, Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Lake Charles, Monroe, and Shreveport.
