THE REMARKABLE STORY OF THE LOUISIANA ARTIST

BLUE: THE LIFE AND ART OF GEORGE RODRIGUE
Louisiana Special Focus
Thursday 7:00pm
Since LPB first aired this special documentary back in December, PBS stations from around the country have shared it with their audiences. The Wall Street Journal even reviewed the film, bringing nationwide exposure beyond the artwork, to the life and legacy of the artist. In BLUE: THE LIFE AND ART OF GEORGE RODRIGUE, audiences learn about the man himself. Rodrigue's life story and artistic contributions are a vivid part of the Louisiana landscape, continuing to play an important part in the American art world and beyond. From his culturally significant works that helped shine a light on Cajun life to his world-renowned Blue Dog catalog, Rodrigue's art is filled with meaning, color, narrative, and joyous storytelling. His inspiring artistic journey took him from his studio "down the bayou" to a globally admired artist whose work has been sought by major worldwide brands, politicians, and collectors too vast to count. Presented by WLAE in New Orleans, this film by Sean O'Malley sprang from the filmmaker's personal connection. “I was drawn to this project because I grew up in New Orleans with deep Cajun roots. George persevered through multiple challenges in his lifetime on his journey from the small town of New Iberia, LA, to recognition as one of the most important artists of our time. I’m proud to have the opportunity to tell his moving and uplifting story.”

COBY HEADS TO THE FINALE!

THE GREAT AMERICAN RECIPE The Grand Finale
Friday 8:00pm
Last week Lafayette contestant Coby Bailey brought some of the judges to tears with the story behind his Alligator Sauce Piquante with Grits! Coby prepared the dish as part of the first challenge of the episode in which the cooks were asked to make a dish in honor of a family tradition or event. For Coby, Alligator Sauce Piquante is a dish he prepares when he and his fellow Navy veterans come together. The judges tucked in to the dish, expressing appreciation for how much flavor the gator absorbed, in all loving the dish and how Coby continues to stay true to his Cajun culture. The next challenge required the home cooks to prepare a dish passed down in your family. Coby only had 60 minutes to prepare Pecan Pralines with Homemade Ice Cream! Time wasn't on Coby's side with several judges noting that Coby should have cooked the pralines a little longer, but all seemed to love the ice cream.
It was enough to propel Coby to the finale!!!!!
He will compete against fellow home cooks Waigal Safi of San Diego who honors his Afghan heritage and Rex Alba of Columbus who honors his Filipino heritage.
GEAUX TEAM COBY!
WHAT'S COBY COOKING!

One of the great things about the PBS cooking competition show THE GREAT AMERICAN RECIPE is they share the recipes the contestants create on the show. This past week the contestants were asked to prepare a dish they would make in honor of a family tradition or event. Coby pulled out the big gun - alligator!

ALLIGATOR SAUCE PIQUANTE
Coby got choked up when sharing the story of how he always serves this dish to his buddies that he served in the Navy with. At least one judge teared up as well. In the end, they were all amazed at how much flavor the alligator absorbed, but Coby went one step extra this week. Coby made a decision to serve his recipe with grits instead of rice "just to mix it up" a bit. Get your cast iron pots ready for this flavor explosion!
