Using Skype for an LPB Interview

Step 1: Download the software
Depending on which device you plan to use, you'll download a specific version of Skype. To download for your computer, click one of the following links:

If you plan on using Skype on your smartphone, click here to get the app for your specific device. For tablets, click here.

Step 2: Create your username
Come up with a username and password you can easily remember. Then, share your name with your family and friends so they're ready to receive your calls and reach out to you on their own.

Step 3: Add LPB Engineering
Add us after logging on by clicking the Contacts tab on the left hand side, then the "Add Contact" button in the top right-hand corner. Search for LPB.Engineering.

Step 4: Make a video call to us
After creating your contact list, you'll be ready to make your first Skype call. Select LPB.Engineering by clicking on our picture. You'll then see a series of buttons and you'll decide which kind of call you'd like to make. Select Video Call.

Step 5: Make sure you're connected
If you've made the call and you can't see or hear us, there might be an issue with the connection. Click the call quality icon to make sure you have strong enough internet connection to interact.

Step 6: Talk for as long as you want!
Once the connection is strong you'll have a full screen of our picture and a small square of your own in the bottom right corner. Now you can talk the day away! Skype makes connecting a simple task, regardless of the distance.

Step 7: End the call
Once you've finished the call, simply press the red handset icon to end the conversation and close out of the program.

Tips for a Good Video

1. Use a direct, hard-wired Internet connection rather than wifi if possible.

2. Use plenty of light. Face a light source such as an open window during the day, a lamp or multiple lighting sources.

3. Use a Clean Background. Be conscious of your background. Try to keep distractions to a minimum. Put some distance between you and the background to create depth.

4. Focus on clear audio. Make sure there are not any machines or fans running in the recording space. Turn off televisons, radios, fans, etc.

5. Avoid Shaky Footage. If you don't have a stand for your camera/device, use stacked books to give your camera solid, stable footing. Try not to move the camera -- it makes viewers seasick!

6. Use Your Phone the Right Way -- Sideways (Landscape) not Up-and-Down (Portrait)

7. Pay attention to camera angle. Try to place the camera at or slightly above eye level.

8. Plan Your Videos in Advance. Once you have your camera set up, try a test recording. Review the recording to see what improvements you can make.

9. Always use the back camera on a phone.
