Unexpected Modernism: The Wiener Brothers Story - DIGITAL DOWNLOAD ONLY

It's a chapter of Shreveport history that not everyone is familiar with; two half brothers whose modernist designs of residential, institutional, and commercial buildings made Shreveport an early hub of International Modernist design in the United States.

Unexpected Modernism tells the story of Jewish architects Samuel G. and William B. Wiener considered by experts to be the most prolific and celebrated architects in not only Shreveport, but the state of Louisiana. "These two men were among the first in the country to bring postmodern architecture to the United States," says filmmaker Gregory Kallenberg. "Shreveport, Louisiana, was one of the first places in the country to have postmodern architecture here. And not only that; the density of existing buildings that were designed by these two men is one of the densest collections of postmodern architecture in the country."

Their story was almost lost in history.

"Unexpected Modernism is an enlightening and long-overdue tribute to two incredible Shreveport architectural trailblazers who made our community among the first American launch sites, of sorts, of the early twentieth century modernist movement," says Louisiana Architecture Foundation board member and Shreveport architect Mischa Farrell. "It is our hope that this powerful film will rejuvenate an appreciation for modernist architecture, its preservation in Shreveport, and the priceless contributions of the Wiener brothers."
