Safe Haven: Louisiana's Green Book: Jake's Cafe
Episode 8: Jake's Cafe
Life for African-Americans was very different in the Delta compared to metro areas. In the small town of Bastrop, there were very few black-owned businesses during the Jim Crow era. However, quite a few people remember Jake’s Café. In this episode of Safe Haven, Kara St. Cyr visits the Snyder Museum and meets with elders who share their memories of this special cafe in the Green Book. The series is based off "The Negro Motorist Green Book" exhibit at the Capitol Park Museum by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service and sponsored by ExxonMobil Baton Rouge.
