Reel South
LPB premieres Season 8 of the acclaimed PBS documentary anthology series Reel South, with eleven new releases available for both broadcast and streaming over six weeks beginning on Monday, April 10. All films are set in the South and provide a platform for non-fiction filmmakers working within our region’s tradition of storytelling. This season’s films cover a wide variety of topics, but they all have one theme in common: they reveal the complexities and unyielding vitality of love.
LPB serves as an executive producing station for the series, along with PBS North Carolina and South Carolina ETV.

Virtual Event
LPB, in partnership with Reel South, hosted a free virtual screening of the documentary short film 8 Days at Ware. It was followed by a conversation with the filmmakers and a discussion about juvenile justice reform in Louisiana. Taking part in the conversation were:
- Meg Schutzer | Filmmaker
- Rachel Lauren Mueller | Filmmaker
- Sec. Terri Ricks | Department of Children and Family Services
- Kristen Rome | Co-Executive Director, Louisiana Center for Children's Rights
- Linda Midgett | Host & LPB Executive Producer
By the end of the conversation everyone agrees: Louisiana needs to do better at keeping juveniles out of the system and focus on prevention and resources to help facilitate that.
If your family is looking for help whether that be financial assistance to mental health resources, the Department of Children & Family Services has a comprehensive page of services that are available to you.
