Louisiana: The State We're In

08:49-13:07 - Special Session Wrap-Up

Andre' Moreau wraps up the special session of the state legislature, held as the coronavirus pandemic rages on. Lawmakers finished the multi-billion dollar budget a day before it must take effect and awarded millions of dollars in tax breaks to businesses. Andre' talks with Greg Hilburn of USA Today network for his take on the session and special session.

13:07-19:53 - LA STEM Program Goes International

Natasha Williams reports on the STEM program started by Dr. Calvin Mackie, former engineering professor at Tulane University. The statewide program encourages young people to seek STEM jobs and it has gained strength to attract major sponsors. The program has now reached thousands of kids in our state with programs in Grambling and Acadiana. During the Pandemic they have gone completely online, with the STEM program now being taught in Ghana West Africa.

19:53-25:46 - In Person Goes Online

The pandemic is forcing so much to be online instead of in person. However, Preserve Louisiana and the Old Governor's Mansion began online experiences three years ago. One that is being offered takes us to a virtual lecture and 3-D experience of tenant cabins and slave dwellings from what were plantations of the 19th century. Andre' Moreau talks with Fairleigh Cook Jackson of Preserve Louisiana. Also discussed is the Louisiana's Historic Tax Credits, which does much than preserve culture.

Louisiana: The State We’re In, Louisiana's only statewide news magazine and one of the longest running television programs in the nation, is in its 43rd season on the air.

The program airs Fridays at 7PM and Sundays at 4:30PM on the six-station LPB network that includes stations in Alexandria, Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Lake Charles, Monroe and Shreveport. It also airs on LPB’s sister station WLAE-TV32 in New Orleans on Fridays at 7PM.

This award-winning show combines in-depth coverage about the important issues in the state along with expert analysis of those issues. This includes continuing coverage of stories like the lasting effect of the BP oil spill on Louisiana’s coastline, the devastating floods of 2016, or the continuing coverage of healthcare, education and state budget issues.

Since its inception in 1976, “Louisiana: The State We’re In” has been a leader in coverage of the Louisiana Legislature. Its goal has always been to explain how legislation will affect the lives of the people of the state. That coverage expands during the legislative session to include daily updates and a wrap up of the week’s events on the Friday broadcast that features live interviews with lawmakers and experts on legislation.

The program also features stories on the art, culture and the people and places that make Louisiana so unique.
