Future of Film Tax Credits
The Louisiana Motion Picture Investor Tax Credit is on the chopping block as part of two bills dealing with tax reform during the ongoing special Tax Session. It belongs to a list of other tax credits up for elimination in House Bill One, which establishes a flat income tax rate and House Bill Two, which deals with corporate income tax reform. Both bills make their way through the legislative process, less than a year after lawmakers renewed the film tax credit through 2031. In this segment, LPB’s Karen LeBlanc brings us a look at the debate and what’s at stake for Louisiana’s film industry.
Building A Healthier Louisiana
Louisiana has been ranked as the least healthy state in the country for the second consecutive year. This comes as cancer mortality rates have sky-rocketed, diabetes cases have increased, and the overall state of health is at a record low. To combat those heartbreaking statistics, some of the state’s most brilliant medical minds rallied together to develop the first Healthy State Summit. For this week’s Good News LA, LPB’s Dorothea Wilson walks us through the summit and how industry leaders intend to build a healthier future for Louisiana.
Delta Music Museum in Ferriday
During the 1950s, blues, gospel and Rock and Roll converged at a small town in Concordia Parish that became a hot spot of the Mississippi Delta music scene. Ferriday’s claim to fame as the birthplace of a trio of famous cousins amplified its disproportionate contribution to the region’s musical heritage. In this segment, LPB’s Karen LeBlanc takes us on a tour of the Delta Music Museum in downtown Ferriday where Louisiana musicians, past and present, created hallowed ground for music fans around the world.
Changes for the New Orleans Saints
The New Orleans Saints made a rare move just over a week ago by changing head coaches mid-season, followed by defeating the Atlanta Falcons in their next game to finally snap a 7-game losing streak. This week on LA Speaks, sports correspondent Victor Howell sits down with reporter Sara Palczewski to get her thoughts on the change, the state of the organization, and what the future might hold for the black and gold.
