INSPIRING THE NEXT GENERATION OF ENGINEERS

It’s the eternal struggle for parents during the coming summer months! First, you are faced with the loudly and often expressed: “There’s nothing to do. I’m bored!” chorus. That’s followed by worries about the dreaded “summer slide” - the phenomenon where students lose some of their academic gains over the summer vacation.

If you find yourself struggling to find fun and easy ways to keep your kids engaged and learning, here’s a helpful and FREE resource that can help get middle school-aged kids excited about science.

The team at East Tennessee PBS have developed a new YouTube series called CHIP KIDS, designed to spark interest in STEAM concepts, particularly semiconductors! That might sound like a super heavy topic, but CHIP KIDS makes it fun and understandable.

Each episode is made in collaboration with educators, engineers, and industry experts and features a fun, hands-on experiment that can be recreated using ordinary, safe materials. The series and the accompanying learning materials aim to inspire and motivate all students to see science careers as exciting opportunities they can achieve. Visit the CHIP KIDS website at www.chipkids.org to learn more and check out the playlist on YouTube @TheChipKids.
