Inspiring a Love of Reading

Celebrating Literacy with Dolly Parton's Imagination Library

More Louisiana children than ever have a library of their very own thanks to the generous support of the ever-expanding Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is a book gifting program that mails free, high-quality books to children from birth to age 5, no matter their family’s income.

Our Louisiana program went statewide in 2023 when LPB was entrusted by the Louisiana Legislature to serve as the state partner for the program.

Receive a Free Book Every Month

Enroll your child in the Imagination Library and receive a FREE, age-appropriate book once per month.

Book Activities

LPB Education offers a collection of learning activity plans that utilize books available in Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. Each downloadable plan provides:

  • Book Title
  • Directions
  • Supporting Material Lists
  • Extended Activity Suggestions

The activity plans were created as part of LPB's Ready to Learn initiative. Funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Ready to Learn is a PBS collaboration that creates high-quality educational media to support young children's skill development and school readiness for children ages 2-8.

PSA Behind the Scenes

LPB partnered with students from LSU’s Manship School of Mass Communication on a new public awareness campaign designed to help connect more Louisiana families to Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.

For this latest awareness campaign, students in a senior-level class at LSU’s Manship School of Mass Communication developed a new public service announcement (PSA) promoting the program under the guidance of Professor Sadie Wilks, Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs and Student Success.

The PSA is currently airing on LPB-HD, LPB PBS KIDS, and LPB-3. It is also available online on this webpage and on LPB's YouTube channel
