Safe Haven: Louisiana's Green Book: The Y.M.C.A.

Episode 7: Y.M.C.A.

Surprisingly, there was even a YMCA listed in the Green Book! In this episode of Safe Haven, Kara St. Cyr travels to Shreveport to visit a building that was once a Y.M.C.A. Rutha Washington shows Kara what the town used to be like for African Americans and its dark history as a sundown town. The series is based off "The Negro Motorist Green Book" exhibit at the Capitol Park Museum by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service and sponsored by ExxonMobil Baton Rouge.
