Hollie Fields
Hollie Fields suffered severe abuse from her mother and stepfather and was finally taken away by the courts and placed with her grandmother, Now in remission from Aplastic Anemia, she is an outstanding student at her school, worked with Holiday for Kids, volunteered at summer camp, is a member of Students Against Destructive Decisions and is the Brigade Commander for the Junior ROTC.
Carissa Fruge
Carissa Fruge has a 4.0 Grade Point Average at Hathaway High despite a wide range of physical ailments over the last four years that have included Swine Flu, a sciatic nerve injury that left her unable to walk without extreme pain, an auto immune disease, Reynaud’s Syndrome and fluid around her heart.
Henry Futch
Henry Futch is a cancer survivor who tutors younger students at his school, helps raise money for Relay for Life and other cancer support organizations along with the Ronald McDonald House and St. Jude’s Hospital.
Aamina Green
Aamina Green has survived Leukemia, Pneumonia, and Pancreatitis to be an excellent student at Teurlings Catholic. She has donated hundreds of hours to her favorite causes including more than 500 hours as volunteer counselor at Camp Challenge, a summer camp for Hematology and Cancer patients.
Madison Perri Martin
Maddie Martin has battled Type One Diabetes since she was 15 months old. Her physical problems have not stopped her from being an advocate and raising money for the American Diabetes Association and Livingston Parish Animal Shelter. She has also volunteered her time for a long list of causes.
Hunner Monceaux
After recovering from a cancerous tumor in his shoulder, Hunner Monceaux got the bad news a year later that he had a large tumor in his lung that would require the removal of the lung. He recovered and is back playing with the South Beauregard Golden Knights basketball team, inspiring everyone around him.
Rachel Patteson
Rachel Patteson has not let her tumultuous family life stop her from being a top student and serving her community. Tossed out of her home by her drug addicted mother at the age of 13, she was taken in by a friend’s family who took her meager savings. She is classified as homeless by the Federal Government but currently lives with a family in her hometown.
Maggie Elizabeth Tortorich
Maggie Tortorich was seriously injured in a car wreck that left her in critical condition with half of her skull crushed. Her remarkable recovery had her back in school in a couple of weeks and she has returned to her first love, dancing. She has made the Central Middle School Dance Team.
