LOUISIANA HARVEST OF THE MONTH
New Digital Series Celebrates the Bounty of Louisiana’s Crops
From sweet strawberries to savory mushrooms, Louisiana Harvest of the Month is an LPB digital-first series celebrating foods grown in Louisiana. Get planting and growing tips for gardeners, along with recipes and fun facts about each crop. Take trips to farms and see what's growing right in our own backyard! PLUS: learn about efforts to connect communities across the state with fresh, healthy food, through the Seeds to Success: The Louisiana Farm to School Program from the LSU AgCenter.
The Louisiana Harvest of the Month series continues LPB’s decades-long tradition of presenting pioneering culinary programs. The series, made up of ten-minute video shorts, is hosted by Crystal Besse, Louisiana Farm to School Program Director. She introduces viewers to farmers and growers around the state, and shares the history of each crop. Helpful nutrition and cooking tips are presented by Judy Myhand, School of Nutrition and Food Sciences instructor at LSU.
Watch each month for a new Louisiana Harvest of the Month episode to premiere on LPB’s YouTube Channel. The playlist includes episodes featuring citrus, sweet potatoes, lettuce, greens, strawberries, and mushrooms. Look for new episodes that feature catfish, tomatoes, summer squash, cucumbers, eggplant, watermelon, rice, and winter squash.
The Louisiana Harvest of the Month complements the educational lessons offered to schools through Seeds to Success. The lessons teach students about Louisiana crops and help encourage schools to incorporate local foods in school menus.
