Civics for Kids: Building Tomorrow Together (PreK-5) Welcome to Civics for Kids: Building Tomorrow Together, a program designed to teach you about the power of democracy, community, and responsible citizenship. Who Won?: Comparing Decimals to the Thousandths Place (3-5,6-8) To figure out who won the race you have to compare their times. This interactive exercise focuses on using what you know about ordering decimals, number lines and rounding to the tenths place and then asks you to think about what numbers could be rounded to get a certain decimal.
Weathered (6-8,9-12) Uncover the current science behind extreme weather events and rapid climate change and reveal the successful solutions to these challenges. Through interviews with leading experts, current data and models, and educational animations, these videos not only explain how the systems of Earth respond to increases in greenhouse gas emissions but also introduce students to the adaptations and mitigations that will help human societies build resilience to those changes. Support materials accompanying each video provide engagement strategies for integrating these educational media into high school classrooms.
Explore the U.S. Constitution | Interactive Lesson (6-8,9-12) In this interactive lesson, students will read and analyze the U.S. Constitution. Beginning with the Constitutional Convention, and followed by a close reading of most of this founding document, students will gain an understanding of the structure and purpose of the Constitution. They will explore how the Constitution established a new democratic form of government through three branches of government, a system of checks and balances, and the separation of powers. They will also learn about how a bill becomes a law, the powers that are granted or denied to each branch of government, and the establishment of federalism.
Migrant Workers Movement | A Song for Cesar (9-12) Learn about the farm workers movement in this media gallery with video from the American Masters films Song for Cesar and Jerry Brown: The Disrupter. Using video, teaching tips, and discussion questions, students explore the working conditions that led farm workers, with the leadership of Cesar Chavez and others, to nonviolent protest, and the legislation that was passed as a result of the movement.

LDMA : Celebrating 50 Years of LPB

On September 6, 1975 at 11:58 a.m., Louisiana Public Broadcasting signed onto the air for the first time on WLPB in Baton Rouge. From 1976 to 1983, LPB became a statewide network by expanding into Monroe, Shreveport, Lafayette, Lake Charles, and Alexandria. Through the years, LPB has produced a wide variety of programming aimed at documenting the unique people, places and culture of Louisiana.
