How to Report Current Events and News: Lesson Plan 7 | Media Arts for Elementary Grades (K-2, 3-5)
Students in Grades K-5 will review what they know about current events and the news and gain an understanding of the importance of staying aware. This is also a wonderful way for students to become familiar with the broadcasting video genre.
Exploring States of Matter with Homemade Ice Cream | It's Camp! Science Shorts (3-5) Learn about states of matter as you make your own ice cream! Our host explains the chemistry involved, why it works, and how you can recreate your own experiment at home. Grab your safety goggles, gather your materials, and give it a try! It's Camp! Science Shorts highlight various science topics including chemical reactions, surface tension, stored energy, air pressure, states of matter, and movement. Students will have the opportunity to watch these experiments and participate along with the videos.
Declaration of Independence | Civics 101 (3-5, 6-8) The Declaration of Independence was the first formal statement by a nation's people asserting their right to choose their own government. The document that was approved by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, and that announced the separation of 13 North American British colonies from Great Britain.
Explore the Declaration of Independence | Interactive Lesson (6-8, 9-12) In this interactive lesson, students are guided through a close reading and analysis of the Declaration of Independence, one of the nation’s founding documents. The lesson highlights the Declaration of Independence’s historical context, its Enlightenment influences, and its elevation to one of a handful of revered documents in U.S. history.
Explore It: The Statue of Liberty (3-5, 6-8) Students will fly around the Statue of Liberty, experiencing history through the statue’s intricate details. Students learn that the Statue of Liberty was almost not built at all, and they will learn the challenges that the builders faced once construction began through a combination of historic photographs, design sketches and video clips. Discussion questions and teaching tips designed both for social studies and/or English/ELA classes, as well as suggestions for including this interactive as part of an interdisciplinary investigation with measurement and/or engineering, are included.

Math Talks are quick activities that accommodate diverse learners by allowing students to focus on open-ended prompts that encourage student discussion and making sense of mathematics.

A Capitol Fourth 2025 - Friday, July 4 at 7PM Commemorate our country’s 249th Independence Day with the 45th broadcast of America’s grand Fourth of July celebration—a star-spangled event for our nation, where music, fireworks, and heartfelt tributes light up the special night. Some of the special highlights from this event are the proudly patriotic performances by The National Symphony Orchestra and military bands and performing groups, such as The United States Army Band and The U.S. Army Chorus.
Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame: 2025 Celebration LPB SPECIAL FOCUS - Sunday, July 6 at 1:30PM Join LPB and the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in Natchitoches for this celebration of the 2025 inductees. This year’s ceremony features twelve shining stars including West Monroe, LSU and NFL star Andrew Whitworth, former LSU head football coach Nick Saban, pro basketball All-Stars Danny Granger and Vickie Johnson, and coaching greats Danny Broussard, Joe Scheuerman and Dale Weiner. The LSHOF Class of 2025 also includes LSU gymnastics great and NCAA champion April Burkholder, and George “Bobby” Soileau, an NCAA boxing champion at LSU who won a state crown as a football coach at his alma mater, Sacred Heart High School in Ville Platte. Sports journalist Ed Daniels and Glenn Guilbeau were honored for their impact with the Distinguished Service Award in Sports Journalism while Herb Vincent was honored as the Dave Dixon Louisiana Sports Leadership Award winner for his impact.
