OBJECTIVES

  1. Students will become familiar with historical figures of Louisiana and be able to determine events and characteristics related to them.

  2. Students will use creativity while becoming familiar with language which is representative of a specific historical figure from Louisiana.

  3. Students will be proficient in the use of technology used to merge art or photos with wording.

  • Louisiana Social Studies Standards: 8.12(d-i), 8.15(a-k), 8.17c
  • Louisiana Technology Standards: 8.2J, 8.3G, 8.2M
  • Louisiana ELA Standards: Reading Informational Text: 8.1, 8.4, 8.6, 8.8, Language: 8.1, 8.2, 8.3a, 8.4(a-d), 8.6.

    • It is best for students to share their work with the class so each child will experience the historical features of all selected historical figures.

ACTIVITY/LESSON

Students will create 4 MEMEs about 4 different historical figures from Louisiana history using characteristics of the people and activities that the historical figures are famous for. Students must research and review prior literature discussed in class and on the documentary, “Why Louisiana Ain’t Mississippi.”

Students are encouraged to complete this assignment electronically for presentation. It may also be completed by hand, on paper or poster to be turned in.
