Assistant Director & Curriculum Coordinator, Early Learning Center

As the Assistant Director and Curriculum Coordinator at the Early Learning Center of First United Methodist Church, Kamille Watson is passionate about enriching the lives of young students through transformative learning experiences that nurture the development of the whole child. With 13 years devoted to educational and leadership roles, Mrs. Watson promotes high quality learning by connecting practice and research.

In 2008, Mrs. Watson started her career as a Kindergarten teacher at Northwestern Elementary with the Zachary Community School District. During her tenure, Mrs. Watson was selected to serve in multiple leadership capacities including the English Language Arts Curriculum Revision Team Leader and co-leader of the Positive Behavior and Intervention Support (PBIS) Team. She also devoted much of her time to mentoring several student teachers from Louisiana State University. In recognition of her outstanding dedication to education, Mrs. Watson was the recipient of the Northwestern Elementary Teacher of the Year Award in 2014.

Her commitment to education is also evident through her academic contributions and community involvement. Mrs. Watson joined her graduate professor, Dr. Cynthia DiCarlo, in publishing “Increasing The Completion of Classroom Routines Through the Use of Picture Activity Schedules” with the Early Childhood Education Journal. Mrs. Watson is a past member of the Zachary Area Reading Council and current member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children. As an approved Louisiana Pathways Trainer, she is certified to provide formal training and continuing education clock hours to early learning center staff in Louisiana. Mrs. Watson is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.

As a native of Opelousas, Louisiana, Mrs. Watson is a Summa Cum Laude graduate from Louisiana State University where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education, her Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction, and her Reading Specialist Certification. When she’s not working to advance education, Mrs. Watson enjoys spending time with her loving husband, Chazz Watson and their two sons - Ethan (5) and Alex (3). Some of her hobbies include traveling, organizing and crafting, trying new restaurants, and of course watching LSU football (Geaux Tigers)!
