Kesha M. Simmons is President-Elect of the Louisiana School Counselors Association. Ms. Simmons earned a certification in School Counseling from Louisiana State University Shreveport. She has a Master of Education in Educational Management and Bachelor of Business Administration in Human Resources Management from Strayer University School of Business.

Since 2013, Ms. Simmons has worked as a school counselor helping 9th and 10th grade students at Caddo Parish Magnet High School develop academically, socially, and professionally.

She is the author of Make it Count!–a high school planning guide for 9th and 10th grade students and School Counseling at Your Fingertips- an informational website for parents and students. In addition, Ms. Simmons sponsors a student-led peer tutoring program, “The Homework Gang”, for Caddo Parish students.

Her service does not stop there. Ms. Simmons partners with local counseling agencies throughout the parish to help children with difficult-to-treat emotional disorders and developmental disabilities. She is also a trained Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) who is skilled at advocating for abused and neglected children. Her latest endeavor to serve youth and young adults is highlighted in establishing a non-profit organization, YouToo,Inc., dedicated to improving the quality of life for disadvantaged students.

As a testament to her amazing work as a counselor and advocate, Ms. Simmons was recently appointed to Caddo Parish Schools Trauma Task Force to assists in training employees about Adverse Childhood Experiences, Human Trafficking, and strategies to help build trusting relationships. She was also a finalist for Caddo School Counselor Association (CSCA) School Counselor of the Year 2018 and is an Honoree of The Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce ATHENA Leadership Award 2017 for her outstanding work in community service. She also serves on the executive board of the Louisiana School Counselor Association as president-elect and a voting delegate at the American School Counselor Association annual conference.

Ms. Simmons prides herself on being well-rounded. As a lover of the arts, she enjoys attending the ballet, performances at the Strand, and other cultural events. She is also an avid reader with a keen interest in natural remedies.

As a born Memphian, Ms. Simmons often travels to Memphis, TN to spend time with her aging mother. Her greatest joy is being a mom. Ms. Simmons is the proud mother of former Magnet student Chasity Matthews.
