Shortened School Week in Avoyelles Parish

Avoyelles Parish voted to implement a four-day school week beginning next year. The policy change is part of an effort to recruit and retain teachers, as Avoyelles Parish is the lowest paid district in the state. Natasha Williams spends a day in Marksville talking with school officials and parents about the change.

The Rising Mississippi River

High water levels on the Mississippi River is currently having a large impact on the local economy and the environment. Andre’ Moreau speaks with Tyler Gray, president of the Mid-Continent Oil and Gas Association, about the economic side of the situation. Andre’ also talks with Harry Blanchet, a biologist at the Department Of Wildlife And Fisheries, about the impact on fish and wildlife.

Modern Architecture & St. Katharine Drexel Chapel

The look of St. Katharine Drexel Chapel at Xavier University in New Orleans is uniquely modern, being designed by world famous architect Cesar Pelli. The chapel, completed in 2012, was built on the northeast edge of the campus, just next to the Pontchartrain expressway.
