ENCORE: August 2019 - Engaging Louisiana

In 2019, an additional 150,000 early votes were cast in the primary election for governor than in the 2015 gubernatorial election. Governor John Bel Edwards defeated businessman Eddie Rispone by just over 40,000 votes in the runoff due in large part to an increased turnout of voters in Louisiana’s urban areas. But, voters aren’t usually this engaged in statewide elections.

So, how can Louisianans be encouraged to be more active in the political process? What influence should and do lobbyists have in legislative affairs? With a crucial election looming in November, Louisiana Public Square looks for answers on an encore presentation of “Engaging Louisiana” Wednesday, August 12 at 7pm on LPB.

Our panelists are:

  • Daniel Erspamer, CEO, The Pelican Institute
  • Jim Nickel, Courson Nickel Governmental Relations
