​Lauren Richey, M.D.

Infectious Diseases, LSU Health Sciences Center

After receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Dr. Laura Richey went on to receive a Master in Public Health degree from Johns Hopkins University and her medical degree from Thomas Jefferson University. She completed her residency training in internal medicine and her fellowship in infectious diseases at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans. During her fellowship she completed a certificate in Tropical Medicine at Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. Dr. Richey joined the faculty of the Medical University of South Carolina as an Assistant Professor in 2013 and was promoted to Associate Professor in July of 2017. She joined the faculty of the Section of Infectious Disease, Department of Internal Medicine at the LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans in 2017.

Board certified in internal medicine and infectious diseases, Dr. Richey is an active member of the Infectious Diseases Society of America. She also received her Certificate of Knowledge in Clinical Tropical Medicine and Traveler’s Health through the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. Her clinical interests include general infectious diseases and HIV care. Her research focuses on factors affecting linkage and retention in care for people with HIV. She also has an interest in acute HIV and improving the delivery of care and clinical outcomes for people with HIV.
