Anna C. J. Long, PhD

LSU Department of Psychology

Anna C. J. Long is an Associate Professor of Psychology in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. Dr. Long has been on faculty at LSU since 2013 and is passionate about serving the southeastern Louisiana community.

She received her undergraduate degree in psychology at the University of Maine at Orono and her Doctorate in School Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She completed an internship accredited by the American Psychological Association at Central Regional Hospital in Raleigh, NC, and two post-doctoral fellowships, one specializing in child and youth behavioral health and the other specializing in educational psychology. She is a licensed psychologist in Louisiana who specializes in working with children and schools.

Her research focuses on children's mental and behavioral health and addresses issues of equity and access to research-supported treatments, particularly within schools. She has expertise in culturally responsive practice and implementation science, the study of methods to promote the use of research findings and proven effective treatments in practice settings (e.g., clinics and schools), and, hence, to improve the quality and resulting benefits of services delivered.

Dr. Long has given several interviews to local newspaper, radio and TV stations and serves on the editorial board for multiple journals in her specialty area. She regularly consults with schools and has several published journal articles and book chapters. She is a founding member and previous chair of the Committee on Diversity and Outreach in Psychology in the Department of Psychology at LSU. Currently, she serves on the American Psychological Association’s Division 16 Committee on Ethnic Minority Affairs.

She is married to Donald R. Long, a former Louisiana school counselor and practicing licensed professional counselor at the Family Behavioral Health Center. Dr. and Mr. Long are parents of a beautiful, vibrant, and intelligent 5-year-old daughter, Simone.
