Cynthia Elmer

Louisiana American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) Board Chair

Cynthia Elmer is the Louisiana American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) Board Chair and also a member of the National AFSP Leadership Council. She became involved with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention after losing her son, Kevin, to suicide in 2004. She was instrumental in bringing the Out of the Darkness Walks to Louisiana in 2006. This year, Louisiana will have six Out of the Darkness Community walks and four Campus Walks. These are Louisiana ASFP’s main fundraisers which allow ASFP members to travel around the state training people in suicide prevention.

Mrs. Elmer is married to her high school sweetheart, Willie Elmer.

They were blessed with two children, Kevin and Gretchen.
