Marie Constantin

Photographer and Community Activist

A native of Hartford, Connecticut, Marie Constantin attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana graduating with degrees in Journalism and General Studies.

Constantin is the author of Finding Calcutta: Memoirs of a Photographer and is a full-time, professional, commercial photographer. Marie was recognized by Baton Rouge Business Report in 2018 as one of the “Influential Women in Business” and was inducted into the LSU Manship Hall of Fame in 2017.

In 2020 Constantin began a grassroots effort to stop the flow of litter into Capitol Lake. To date, she and countless volunteers have picked up more than 545 twenty-five-gallon bags of litter, which would fill a football field. The state is committed to installing litter-trapping booms that should decrease the flow of litter by over 80 percent.

Equipment like booms are part of the solution. Marie’s mission is to increase public awareness about the importance of stormwater treatment programs and why permanent funding is needed to solve this problem today and for future generations.
