Rep. Stephen Carter

Steve Carter is a three-term legislator who currently chairs the Capital Region Legislative Delegation, having twice been elected to lead by the 30 member delegation. In 2012, Carter was one of the authors of Act 3 which mandated an overhaul of the state’s entire early care and education system.

Carter is the only legislator having been awarded Legislator of the Year by the Southwest Louisiana Chamber of Commerce two times. Carter is a native of Baton Rouge and a graduate of University Laboratory School where he has been inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame. He is a graduate of Louisiana State University where he served as Student Government. Carter was a Captain in the US Air Force and at the completion of his military career,
Carter joined the staff of LSU as Associate Athletic Director and was the LSU Tennis Coach where he was twice awarded Southeastern Conference Tennis Coach of the Year, and coached the LSU Tennis team to their first SEC Championship in 43 years. He founded the Carter Carter Tennis Camp, working with over 11,000 children on tennis and leadership skills. Carter has been married to Gloria Solomon of McComb, Mississippi, for over forty years. He and Gloria have two children Amelia Carter Hunt and Solomon Carter. They have four grandchildren.
