Deputy Chief Jonathan Dunnam

Baton Rouge Police Dept.

Jonny was born in Baton Rouge and graduated from Tara High School. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy (Session 257). He holds a Graduate Certificate in Criminal Justice Education and a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice Administration.

He joined the Baton Rouge Police Department in 1989 and began his career in uniform patrol where he spent three years before moving to the criminal investigations division as a burglary detective. After spending 8 years in criminal investigations he began a 14 year stint in internal affairs as an investigator and supervisor. From there he spent 3 years as the department’s public information office commander. In 2017 Mayor Broome appointed him the Interim Chief of Police while she searched for her new Chief of Police, Chief Murphy Paul. Upon his appointment Chief Paul appointed Jonny as his Deputy Chief over Administration and his Chief of Staff.

Jonny is a veteran professional with over 30 years of law enforcement expertise in police department policy and procedures.
