Associated Professional Educators of Louisiana (A+PEL)

A first generation college graduate from a rural area, Dr. Keith Courville graduated at the age of 20 with a Chemistry degree from Louisiana College and has since dedicated his life to serving others While serving as a Biomedical Researcher under a Board of Regents Fellowship, Dr. Courville began volunteering with local school systems through his church, eventually answering the call to revive a Physics program at a rural high school, where he taught and coached. After winning a prestigious Presidential Management Fellowship, he declined his federal appointment in order to pursue school leadership opportunities, and soon found himself leading A+PEL’s statewide professional development and pre-service teacher programs.

Since 2014, Dr. Courville has served as A+PEL’s Executive Director, wherein he has greatly expanded the association’s operational capacities, programs/services, revenue streams, and the strength of its foundation and charitable giving. During all of this, Dr. Courville continued through night school at LSU, earning a Master’s in Gifted Education, a Master’s Plus 30 and Ed.S. in Educational Leadership with a focus on Educational Technology, and finally a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Research. His dissertation explored the nuances of teacher evaluation systems in rural districts, and his research interests have developed to focus on comprehensive school evaluation and improvement. Dr. Courville and his wife, Dr. Rosemary Courville, along with their son, live in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where his hobbies include finance/investing, writing, and physical fitness.
