Aishala Burgess

TRUCE Executive Director

Aishala Burgess received her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology with a minor in Biology from Xavier University of Louisiana in New Orleans, Louisiana. She received her Juris Doctor degree from Southern University Law Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Aishala is employed by the East Baton Rouge District Attorney’s Office. She is an Assistant District Attorney assigned to Crime Strategies Unit. She spent majority of career in the Juvenile Section. Although, she was reassigned to the Violent Crime Unit, Gang Division, she still maintained her focus on Juvenile Delinquency. Aishala’s love for the community and children made her transition from Juvenile Court to the Crime Strategies Unit a natural fit.

Currently, Aishala is the Executive Director of TRUCE. TRUCE is a community-led nonprofit that uses group violence reduction strategies targeting youth between the ages of 14 and 24. The mission of TRUCE is to engage our youth to help them leave violence behind and assist them in productive work, like obtaining a HISET diploma, acquiring job skills training or a college education, and securing employment with one of our many industrial partners.

Aishala is a member of the Louisiana District Attorney’s Association, the Baton Rouge Bar Association, American Bar Association, The National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives, and The National Black Prosecutors Association. Aishala is an active member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Phi Rho Omega Chapter in Baldwin, Louisiana, where she serves as President.

Aishala is the daughter of Conrad and Jeanette Burgess and the proud parent of one son, Kylon Brown. Kylon is a graduate of Louisiana Tech University and is currently a second year law student at Southern University Law Center.

She enjoys reading, spending time with her family, and helping children and families in crisis.
