Art Rocks!, produced by Louisiana Public Broadcasting, begins its 8th season on the air on Friday, September 18. To kick-off Season 8, Baton Rouge Gallery’s 65 artist members offer a creative solution to staying safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. Gallery President/CEO Jason Andreasen invited each artist to have one of their original works of art reimagined as a face mask. We visit with him and artist member Michaelene Walsh, who tell us about the successful collaboration that has generated lots of community interest and donations that support frontline health workers, the participating artists, and the gallery. Then, we meet American composer Peter Boyer of Los Angeles, who discusses his work Ellis Island: The Dream of America, featured on Great Performances PBS. Plus, we visit Harvard Art Museum’s centennial exhibition celebrating The Bauhaus, as well as the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Lake Charles.

LPB President & CEO Beth Courtney says, “Art Rocks! connects us with creative communities throughout Louisiana. Each week we tell the stories behind the art and meet the talented artists that offer us all inspiration through their work. We are delighted that PBS member stations around the country share our segments about Louisiana artists to their audiences, as well.” With the start of season 8, LPB Digital Studios launched a new look for the series. The brand refresh includes a new logo design and production elements within the show. The series also highlights current exhibitions around the state through its arts calendar and often features a Louisiana Treasure, a cultural and historical gem only a road trip away. Art Rocks! is hosted by James Fox-Smith, Publisher of Country Roads Magazine, and produced by LPB Senior Producer, Dorothy Kendrick and LPB Digital Studios Director, Donald “D.Ray!” Washington.
