LPB DIGITAL PLATFORMS TO STREAM SERVICES OF EDWIN EDWARDS

Remembering Edwin Edwards

Louisiana Public Broadcasting (LPB) Digital Platforms offer several opportunities for those wishing to pay their final respects to former Louisiana Governor Edwin Edwards with live streaming coverage of both Saturday’s lying in state and Sunday’s funeral services.

Edwards, who passed away at the age of 93, will lie in state at the Louisiana State Capitol on Saturday, July 17. LPB will provide a live stream of the viewing at lpb.org from 10 AM until 12 PM for those wishing to pay their respects, while remaining socially distant.

Lpb.org will also live stream the former governor’s funeral services on Sunday, July 18 from Louisiana’s Old State Capitol. Times for the services are still pending. Please check at lpb.org and LPB social media platforms for the latest information on start times.

This is in addition to a profile of the former governor airing Friday, July 16 at 7 PM during LPB’s Louisiana: The State We’re In. The weekly news and public affairs program will feature a segment providing viewers with a look back at Edwards’ life and career. It will include a never-before-seen interview with Edwards by LPB’s André Moreau.

LPB will also premiere Remembering Edwin Edwards, a one-hour special airing Monday, July 19 at 7:00 PM. Hosted by André Moreau, the program dives deep into LPB’s considerable digital archives, which include profiles, interviews, and debates, bringing viewers a more in-depth portrait of the complex politician. Additional perspective will be provided by journalists Beth Courtney and Bob Courtney, who both spent decades covering Edwards during his multiple terms in office. Remembering Edwin Edwards will encore, Sunday, July 25 at 3 PM.

“The scope of LPB’s coverage during Edwards’ four-terms in office is remarkable. We are very fortunate to have a resource like Louisiana Digital Media Archive to house all of our historical footage so that it can be available for generations to come,” said LPB President & CEO Beth Courtney.

Louisiana Digital Media Archive (LDMA) is the online home of the LPB Digital Collection and the Louisiana State Archives Multimedia Collection. The ever-expanding site contains a combined catalog of thousands of hours of media recorded in Louisiana in the late 20th and early 21st centuries and is freely available for streaming. Viewers can access a selection of archived material on Edwin Edwards at www.ladigitalmedia.org.
