LEONARDO DA VINCI: A FIRST FROM KEN BURNS AND TEAM

LEONARDO DA VINCI
2-Part Series
Monday 7:00pm
Tuesday 7:00pm

Celebrated filmmaker Ken Burns has covered a wide array of historical events and figures from the Civil War to baseball to Benjamin Franklin and Muhammad Ali. As widely diverse as all of these topics are, they have one striking trait in common; they all speak to uniquely American experiences. That changes for Burns on Monday night..

LPB will present the premiere of LEONARDO DA VINCI, a two-part, four-hour documentary exploring the life and work of the 15th century polymath. Inspired by the biography written by Louisiana author and Tulane professor Walter Isaacson, the film looks at how the artist influenced and inspired future generations, and it finds in his soaring imagination and profound intellect the foundation for a conversation we are still having today: what is our relationship with nature and what does it mean to be human.

LEONARDO DA VINCI: THE DISCIPLE OF EXPERIENCE
Monday 7:00pm

Leonardo apprentices as an artist and craftsman in Florence, where the Renaissance is in full bloom. He shows extraordinary talent, but struggles to finish commissions. Later, in Milan, he paints a monumental fresco of The Last Supper.

LEONARDO DA VINCI: PAINTER-GOD
Tuesday 7:00pm

Leonardo designs fanciful flying machines, studies light and shadow, investigates gravity, dissects cadavers, and pours the sum of his scientific and artistic knowledge into a portrait that would become the most famous painting on Earth.
