VACCINES, HURRICANES & INFRASTRUCTURE: LOOKING AHEAD TO LOUISIANA IN 2022

AN INTERVIEW WITH GOVERNOR JOHN BEL EDWARDS
LOUISIANA: THE STATE WE'RE IN

Friday 7:00pm
ENCORE: Sunday 4:30pm

COVID-19 dominates the conversation once again as LPB brings viewers across the state an annual one-on-one end of year interview with Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards. The interview will be part of this Friday's Louisiana: The State We’re In.

From where the state stands on vaccine mandates and booster shots to dealing with new strains of the virus, Governor Edwards talks to LPB’s André Moreau about battling the COVID-19 pandemic into 2022. While COVID may have dominated the discussion, it was by no means the only topic covered:

·        Hurricane Recovery - Governor Edwards details where storm recovery stands and not just from 2021’s Ida, but reaching back to Hurricane Laura from 2020.

·         Infrastructure and Jobs Act – With an anticipated $7.2 billion flowing into the state treasury, Governor Edwards talks about plans for those federal dollars from road and bridge construction to expansion of broadband access.

·         Climate Initiatives Task Force – With a planned billion-dollar expansion of LNG (Liquified Natural Gas) facilities in Cameron Parish, the governor talks development of green energy projects.

The program will also be available for live streaming at www.lpb.org/livetv, with the LPB App, and for on-demand viewing at www.lpb.org/lswi. Louisiana: The State We're In also airs in New Orleans on WLAE-TV32 Friday at 7pm and on WYES-TV, Friday at 7:30pm.

LET THE ADVENTURE BEGIN! JULES VERNE GETS THE MASTERPIECE TOUCH

AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS ON MASTERPIECE
LPB SERIES PREMIERE
Sunday 7:00pm

If you really wanted to, you could circle the world in around 51 hours by plane. The International Space Station manages it in about 90 minutes. Englishman Phileas Fogg is trying to do it in 80 days; of course, it’s 1872 and he’s only got ships, trains, balloons, camels and the like to accomplish this feat!

Literature’s most famous race against the calendar comes to MASTERPIECE with this innovative new adaptation of Jules Verne’s classic novel Around The World In Eighty Days, airing on LPB in eight thrilling episodes. David Tennant (Doctor Who, Broadchurch) stars as the Englishman who bets a fortune that he can circumnavigate the planet in a mere eighty days. Ibrahim Koma (As Far as I Can Walk) and Leonie Benesch (Babylon Berlin) costar as his intrepid traveling companions on an expedition that packs far more adventure than the trio bargained for.

Updating Verne’s enduringly popular tale, MASTERPIECE introduces new themes, characters, and stories, drawing in part on the author’s own personal history of disappointment in love, and also echoing the record-breaking around-the-world trip in 1890 by journalist Nellie Bly in emulation of Verne’s plot. Filmed across several countries, creator Crawford Collins calls it a “family-friendly period road trip.”

Many communities now host family-friendly First Night celebrations with fireworks, music and games, but you can also have lots of fun staying home.

Whether you decide to host a neighborhood party or just cozy up with your family, make it a New Year’s Eve to remember with these tips for a kid-friendly celebration.
