TRASHING LOUISIANA! A CLOSER LOOK AT LOUISIANA'S LITTER PROBLEM

LOUISIANA PUBLIC SQUARE: LITTER IN LOUISIANA
Wednesday 7pm

It’s estimated that $40 million is spent each year in Louisiana on litter removal, abatement, education and enforcement. Last year the Department of Transportation & Development alone spent $9 million on litter pickup, diverting enough money that could have been used to overlay 90 miles of roadway. Litter finds its way into the state’s waterways, harming wildlife and creating flooding. Improper disposal of PPE since the COVID pandemic has only made the problem worse.

So, how is Louisiana combating its litter problem? What role can citizens play? And what can we learn from other states?

LPB will explore the issue from multiple angles with a variety of panelists: First, a closer look at the problem, followed by the state and community's response. Finally, we'll look at the role of citizens.
