"No social institution in the Black community is more central and important than the Black church," says Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr. Beginning this Tuesday, LPB premieres his two-part series revealing the broad history and culture of the Black church while exploring African American faith communities on the frontlines of hope and change. 

Tuesday
Explore the roots of African American religion beginning with the trans-Atlantic slave trade and the extraordinary ways enslaved Africans preserved and adapted their faith practices from the brutality of slavery to emancipation.

Wednesday
Discover how the Black church expanded its reach to address social inequality and minister to those in need, from the Jim Crow South to the heroic phase of the Civil Rights Movement and the Black church’s role in the present.

Throughout the month of February, LPB explores the role of Louisiana's Black Church with an in-depth report on Louisiana: The State We're In, airing Friday's at 7pm.

THE POWER OF PRESENCE: A LOOK AT THE FASCINATING LIFE OF MARIAN ANDERSON

AMERICAN EXPERIENCE: VOICE OF FREEDOM

Voice of Freedom explores the fascinating life of celebrated singer Marian Anderson. In 1939, after being barred from performing at Constitution Hall because she was Black, she triumphed by singing at the Lincoln Memorial in what became a landmark moment in American history.

In this lush mini-series, garden lover Alexander Armstrong and garden designer Arit Anderson visit six spectacular sacred gardens throughout the United Kingdom. You’re an important part of the “circle of care” that surrounds the families and kids who need it most.

We’ve created these 45 minute virtual Lunch & Learn webinars to support you in this critical work by showing you how to use hundreds of multi-media tools to helps kids and families enrich and expand their knowledge during the early years of birth through six, a critical window for brain development. These resources engage kids and adults in everyday moments and daily routines—from teaching early math, school readiness, health emergencies and much more!
